Enhancing values
social competence workshop
In our Sport and Health Psychology class, we were to create a workshop to enhance the values of our clients, and my partner and I chose to focus on social competence within a sports team, and more specifically a co-ed team. Social competence within a team involves creating social support, getting along with each other, good communication, interaction, and cooperation. In order to increase social competence in a co-ed sports team, the players can engage in the activity below that involves working with each other to come to an agreement amongst each other.
Materials: Paper and pencil for each group
Objectives: To work together and make agreements
Population: Sports teams (co-ed)
Take-home Message: As a team, you are all equal and working to achieve the same goal.
In this activity, each group will create their own team. In doing so, each group must answer each question, but each team member must fully agree on the decision made before moving on to the next.
Activity
1. What will your team name be? (ex. Pioneers, Badgers, Wolves, etc.)
2. Who is your team mascot?
3. What will your team colors be? (two colors)
4. What is your team's purpose? (goal)
5. What is your team's favorite food?
6. What is your team's theme song?
7. What is your team's lucky number?
After the activity, everyone will come together for a debrief and talk about how their team made agreements and decisions, and if any, how did they overcome any barriers in the decision-making process.
